Today is day 2 of Christy’s Birthday Week. The second reason that I am so glad that Christy was born is that Christy is the MOST COMPASSIONATE person I have ever known. She truly loves those around her with everything she has. With the ups and downs of some of the challenges I have had to face this past year I know first hand how loving and caring Christy is. She is truly one of those rare people who always puts her needs second to those around her.
I am sure if you ask Christy’s friends, family, students, or fellow teachers they will all say the same thing. Christy lives her life dedicated to making everyone else’s life as easy and successful as possible despite the challenging circumstance they may face.
Thank God for Christy’s birth because the world can use as much compassion as it can get and…. Christy has a lot to give.
*Note: the drawing is loosely based on Christy and I but I know that it is not close to looking like us.

This week is my Wife’s official Birthday Week! This is something she introduced me to. As a child I only celebrated the actual birthday but Christy taught me that there is no point in just celebrating the day when we can celebrate the whole week.
In celebration of her Birthday Week I have decided to dedicate this week of sketches to some of the reasons I am so extremely happy that she was born.
The first reason is friendship. As children I am sure we can all remember the friendship bracelet. It is something that two friends wore to symbolize the bond they shared as friend. I could not wear enough of those bracelets if I tried to symbolize the type of bond Christy and I share as friends.
Not only is Christy my wife but she is also my best friend. She is the type of friend I can always count on, trust in, laugh with, and just have fun with. Today I am thankful that Christy was born because she is the best friend I have ever had.

Because of our church service as well as other outside circumstances, I have been thinking a lot about doing things as a group versus alone. Really, one of the things that has been on my heart is finding a way to partner with someone in my business. God has already shown me some possibilities but now it is just about how to make it financially feasible.
This idea of working as a group stems back to biblical times. In fact, when Jesus sent out the disciples he did not send them out alone. He sent them out in groups because he knew that each had his own talents and weaknesses but together they could really make a difference. I think the same is true in ministry with all the different people and their talents, the same is true in business, and the same is true with the fact that God made man and woman to be together (thank God for that).
When I was thinking about this I thought about a pilot. More often than not, pilots fly with a copilot. Why is that? Well, I think the pilot needs help with all the tasks that take place to safely fly a plane. Each has a different job and together they can safely fly and land the plane. I think we all need our copilots and pilots in life.

Well, for all the Lakers fans out there like myself, today is a sad day. The Lakers lost in 5 games to the Oklahoma City Thunder last night and are officially out of the playoffs. It might not only be an end to the season but it might also be the end to a dynasty, unless they are able to make some good off-season acquisitions. I guess there is nothing left to do but hang up my Lakers’ hat until next season. It was a good run…
The only consolation is now I can get some sleep. The games are on very late for those of us on the East coast.

I know, I know, you are probably wondering what a water bottle has to do with a bachelor party. Well, I assure you, there is a reason.
This weekend one of my good friends is having his bachelor party. Lets just say that people usually don’t associate me with drinking very much. In fact, according to my wife, I have an “alcohol face,” which I make whenever I take a sip of most alcohol. So, my drink of choice for this weekend, as well as life in general, is good old fashion water. I love water and I think it might be good for you…

Today is Hank’s Birthday. He is officially 1 year old, which i guess is 7 years in people years. Anyways, these dogs are ready to party and celebrate his Birthday. Unfortunately, we had a little celebration with his best friend, Austin (from my last drawing), 2 days ago so they are a little late to the party. Oh well, there is always next year…

This is a drawing of Hank’s best friend, Austin. Austin and Hank met when they were both 2 months old. Austin is a chocolate lab so he is quite a bit bigger than Hank but I don’t think Hank or Austin know that. They love playing together for hours and we enjoy hanging out with Austin’s owners, Mike and Michelina, so it works out well. They are both one year old and own matching ties. Yeah, that is right, matching ties…
*Lets be honest, this took more like 3 hours to complete. That being said, I probably won’t have a new drawing tomorrow since I put so much time into this one. Check back in a couple days.

Yesterday was Mother’s Day so I wanted to do a drawing that related to my relationship with my loving Mom. When I was young I remember how nurturing my Mom was. She was always that comforting voice in my life. Whether it was during my rough years when I broke my femur or when I struggled with my self-image in high school I could always count on my Mom to say the right thing or just put her arm around me.
So, how does that relate to a night light? Well, in much the same way that a nigh light provides comfort to a scared child at night my Mom comforted me and helped me to have peace even when things around me seemed pretty dark. Thanks for providing the light Mom. Happy Mothers’ Day.

It’s late and I am watching my Lakers play some horrible basketball. All I can think about is some chocolate cake. I am a huge fan of chocolate and I do love cake. Yummy…

Well, tonight is one of those random drawings of mine. It doesn’t really have any particular meaning. My wife found a picture online and thought it looked cute.
However, as I was drawing it I couldn’t help but think that it relates to life in the sense that we often want everything right now. Sometimes, we need to learn to take life one bite at a time instead of wanting instant gratification. Shoving too much into our “mouths” can often leave us feeling trapped and uncomfortable. I wonder how this squirrel feels…
