    Life’s Movie

    Life's Movie

After everything that I experienced this weekend, both with the funeral and with spending time with Christy’s grandmother, I realized that life really is very precious.  The good moments in our life come and go so rapidly.  We really need to learn to enjoy every minute of our lives.  I know this is something I personally struggle with very much.  All the blessings we have in our lives should be cherished.

Our life is kind of like a movie strip.  Each moment builds on the last and tells a story.  The funny thing is we really never know what our whole movie will be until we have moved on from this life.  Yet, we worry so much about the next scene instead of focusing on how nice the scene we are currently in is.  At the same time, there is still so much of our movie that needs to be completed.  I guess, what I learned is that we can’t worry about the finished movie.  We need to enjoy the scene we are in because the next one will be started before we know it.  We also need to make the best of our situation and the time we are given because we want our life movie to be impactful when it is all said and done.

I want mine to be a top seller at the box office.

    A Foot Ahead

    A Foot Ahead

Once again, Christy and I found ourselves driving back from Jacksonville after a long weekend up there for her grandpa’s funeral.  We are exhausted but blessed to have so many friends and family who care about us and her grandparents.  I know it means so much to Christy and her mom.

Since I have been a little behind on my drawing for some obvious reasons, I decided to do a drawing on the way back today.  This is a quick study of my own foot.  I like the idea of including the actually sketchbook of the drawing in the drawing.

    Breakfast of Champions

    Breakfast of Champions

There is nothing like a nice glass of a homemade smoothie to start the day off right.  I know, this is not my deepest drawing ever but sometimes you just see something and think, wow, the shadows and overall composition look nice.  I think I am going to draw that.  That is what I did today.  I hope you enjoy the drawing as much I enjoyed drinking the smoothie.

    TOMS

    TOMS

I love my TOMS shoes.  They are so comfortable and lightweight.  I probably wear them way too much.  I am not sure if everyone is familiar with the TOMS brand but they really have a nice system.  Basically, whenever you buy a pair of shoes they will send a pair of shoes to a child in a Third World country.  So, when you buy a pair of TOMS you are helping out a child in need.  That really is a cool thing.  You can check it out at the following link.

    No More Pain

    No More Pain

I recently read a book called “Heaven is for Real.”  It is about a young boy (5 years old) who almost dies but survives.  After his near death experience he starts to mention things about his grandpa and sister.  Both of them had passed away before he was born and his parents had not told him much about it.  He also reveals an in-depth knowledge of Revelations that he was never taught.  It really gets you thinking about Heaven.  What is it like?  What does Jesus look like?  What will I do there?  Who will I see?  For some reason, in our skeptical minds, we have a hard time believing that this boy’s story could actually be true.  Even as Christians we have an easier time believing that his parents lied to make a few bucks.

Well, on Sunday Christy’s Grandpa (who I did a drawing of a few days ago) passed away.  Although it is sad for those he left behind I am excited for him.  As it says in Revelations, he is no longer in pain.  All the things of this world have passed away.  All the questions we have have been answered for him.  He has seen His face.  He knows the truth about the little boys story.

*This is not my favorite drawing.  I actually used a reference from the book about another young girl who is a painter.  She claimed to have seen Jesus and did an amazing painting of him.  Way better than my drawing.  They both talk about how beautiful Jesus’ eyes are.

    Kleenex and a Bible

    Kleenex and a Bible

I think I touched on this in an earlier but it was something that we discussed in church on Sunday and it really hit me.  God wants us to be honest with our emotions.  Especially Christians think that we need to always put on a happy face and say that everything is great even when it is not.  How can we truly know who God is if we don’t understand what real pain is.  We need to be honest with that pain and lay it at the cross.  There is pain in this world, things are not always ok, and it is ok to tell God that you really are struggling.  So, today I encourage you to grab a box of Kleenex and your Bible and tell G0d how you honestly feel.  He already knows but he just wants you to tell him.  If everything in your life is going great then you should just thank God for that.  That is a huge blessing in its own way.

    Hank on the Couch

    Hank on the Couch

Ok, I have a confession to make.  I did not do this drawing today.  Honestly, I think I put so much into yesterdays drawing that I just did not have the energy today.  A few months ago I did this drawing for my wife.  It was my first drawing I did of Hank.  I also have noticed that a lot of people love drawings of their dogs and cats so I think people will still enjoy this even though some of you may have seen it before.  I really like this drawing and I did it a little before 365sketch was born so, today, I am posting it.

    Christy’s Grandpa – Da

    Christy's Grandpa - Da

My wife, Christy, and her mom have been going through a tough time with Christy‘s grandparents lately.  They are both in their mid 90s (I know, its amazing to live that long) and have had some very serious health scares lately.  Actually, as I write this, Christy and Mom are in Jacksonville with them.

Last time I was in Jacksonville I was showing Da (that is what Christy and Alex call their grandpa) some of the sketches I have done.  He asked me if I could draw him.  If you ever met Da you would know that he has a very funny sense of humor and he knows it. With that dry witty sense of humor and a little grin, like the one depicted in my drawing, painted on his face, he asked if I could draw him in the nude.  Well, we all know that is not happening but I hope this will suffice.

I put a whole lot into this drawing and kind of cheated a little.  Lets just say it may haven taken a little over an hour.

    Hoot Hoot!

    Hoot Hoot!

My brother-in-law, Alex, loves owls.  He recently had a birthday so I thought it would be a good time to do a drawing for him.  Alex, Happy Birthday.  This is for you.  I hope you like it.

    Fortune Cookie

    Fortune Cookie

Usually I am not a huge fan of the fortune cookie fortunes.  I feel like a lot of times the fortune is more of a statement then a real fortune.  In this case, I really like the fortune, even though it technically is still a statement, that was inside my cookie.  In case you can’t read it in the drawing, it says “You are talented in many ways.”  It is crazy how this simple cookie could read me so perfectly, lol.  Well, I like to think I have a little art talent.

In case you are wondering, yes, I am going to now eat this cookie.
